New Year, New Love

It’s 2022.  A new year.  Some of us have been recovering from relationships that have ended, but now, it doesn’t matter what happened in that past relationship.

Push away those negative thoughts that “I’ll never find love again” or “I’m just unlucky in love relationships,” and don’t lose hope.

Pursue finding yourself again because sometimes we “morph” into what pleases our partner in relationships.

You may be nervous, but you can move on.

Here are a few tips to push you forward:

REALITY CHECK

  • Before you get started, take a moment for some heart healing and soul searching to evaluate your relational expectations.
  •  Define your wants and needs internally so you can communicate them effectively.

EMOTIONAL RESET

  • Wait until you can be fully present in a relationship and able to trust another again before you start your pursuit of new love.
  • Detach from your EX by getting some closure from that relationship.  Be open with family and friends that it is over.
  • Get rid of those old reminders (photos, texts, social media).  Put it all in the “trash bin” of your memory.

DO THE UNEXPECTED

  • Change your daily routine by adding an interest/activity that you have contemplated to your life.
  • Make yourself available for new opportunities to meet people.

SELF-EVALUATION

  • Make sure you still love yourself (life values, morals, personality) before you reach out to connect with someone else.
  • Define the exact qualities you are searching for in a partner.

  • Get out there.  Whether you join a dating app, or your BFF sets up a blind date, it’s time to try again.
  • When you meet someone, start gradually revealing “who you are” to them.
  • Remember, you’re not marketing yourself like a product with an expiration date.
  • Don’t overwhelm the budding relationship with too much information; let it grow organically.

Go forward this year with a new attitude, a rejuvenated heart, and bolstered confidence to find that new soul mate.
